John’s, 11th April…….Prime
Minster of Antigua and Barbuda the Hon. W. Baldwin Spencer has
congratulated West Indies Captain Brian Lara on his triple century
scored at the Antigua Recreation Ground (ARG) on Sunday during the
second day of the fourth Test Match West Indies versus England.
At
the end of the day’s play Prime Minister Spencer congratulated the
star batsman on the accomplishment outlining that his old form has
returned. Prime Minister
Spencer, who is an avid cricket fan, told Lara that it was a joy once
again to watch his powerful mix shots exhibiting dexterity with late
sweeps and cuts.
“I
am looking forward to you breaking the world record tomorrow and I am
confident that you can do it and make all of the
Caribbean
proud,” Prime Minister
Spencer told Brian.
Brian
Lara in turn congratulated Prime Minister Spencer on his recent election
victory and noted that he has the world record in sight and will be
getting a good night’s rest to stay focus on Monday.
The
star West Indian batsman, who ended the day on 313 runs, told Prime
Minister Spencer that he is already feeling that his batting is much
better than 10 years ago when he set the world record score of 375 at
the ARG and is hoping
for the
West Indies
to reach at least 700 runs on
Monday.

Brian Lara, who is the first man since Sir Don Bradman to get two
scores of at least 300 in Tests needs an additional 68 runs to
surpass the world record of 380 set by Matthew Hayden in October
last year.
Prime Minister Spencer during the two days of cricket also greeted
the Antiguan cricketers on the
West Indies
team and was interviewed on Sky Television. |
