John’s, 12th April……..Prime Minister of Antigua and
Barbuda the Hon. W. Baldwin Spencer has congratulated West Indies
Captain Brian Lara on setting a new record score in Test Cricket at the
Antigua Recreation Grounds (ARG) in
St.
John’s
.
The
Prime Minster was among the first to congratulate the star batman on the
field after he accomplished the feat having faced 546 deliveries,
hitting 42 fours and four sixes.
Prime
Minister Spencer, who also congratulated Lara on Sunday for scoring 300
runs, said that by regaining the world record, he has proven that he is
one of the world’s greatest batsmen who have attained great
accomplishments through hard work.
The
country’s leader, who watched every stroke played by the Trinidadian
left-hander, said that it was a pleasure watching Lara play superlative
strokes all over the field. Lara
had set the first world record her at the ARG ten years ago hitting 375
runs.
Mr.
Spencer also commended Antiguan wicketkeeper/batman Ridley Jacobs for a
well played century and for sharing an unbroken partnership with Brian
Lara. “Ridley has been a
pillar of strength for the
West
Indies
team and has always stepped up to the challenge when required,” said
PM Spencer.
Brian
Lara has set the highest score ever in Test Cricket, hitting 400 not out
having faced 582 deliveries, hitting 43 fours and four sixes.
Ridley Jacobs also ended his innings at 107 not out having faced
207 balls hitting 84 fours and 3 sixes. The
West
Indies
declared at 751 for 5.
